A Terrific Run, a Terrific Week

Week of August 12, 2012:

Wednesday: Morning run (25 minutes!)

Thursday: Evening treadmill work-out (more about that below)

Friday: Morning run (20 minutes)

Total minutes run this week: 90.  Boo-yah!

First of all, does anyone actually say, “Booyah!” any more?  No?  Okay.  I’m an old lady, so it’s very difficult for me to keep up with the slang that all the kids are using these days.  Other trends I struggle with include skinny jeans, texting, and acting coolly indifferent to everything.  Let’s just say I am easily EXCITED!  (But here’s one more trend I stay away from: the use of excessive exclamation points.  I think one is sufficient.  Right?  Right!)

Anyway, I am excited to report that I hit 90 minutes of running this week, which probably translates to about 10 miles (+/- 1 mile).  I ran every day from Tuesday through Friday, thus making up for my lost long run.  Thursday’s work-out was especially good.  Inspired by Chrissy’s example, I decided to do a “ladder”-style speed work-out on the treadmill.  It’s one of my favorite work-outs, and mine looked like this:

5 min. @ 9:00/mile

5 min. @ 8:30/mile

5 min. @ 8:00/mile

5 min. @ 8:30/mile

5 min. @ 9:00/mile

Plus a little cooldown, for a total of 25 minutes of quality treadmill running.

I figure if I’m going to be on the treadmill, I might as well take advantage of the t-mill’s strength: pacing you during speed work-outs.  What was particularly awesome is that I wasn’t feel all that great yesterday, but I felt quite good during and after my work-out.  So that was a nice reward for my hard work!

Happy weekend, everyone! (!!!)

  1. Congrats on a great week! And I agree - treadmills are great for short, speedy sessions. Can't wait until it's cool enough outside to run fast again!

  2. Thanks, darling! I am feeling really inspired by the treadmill now--I think my running is getting strong enough (thanks to slogging through all those sweaty outdoor runs) that I can enjoy the fun of a speed session.

Still, I'm ready for September! :-) Tempo runs, I'm coming for you.
