Fast Approaching

Thursday’s Bike Commute and Short Run (12/30/10)

I decided that three days at home was long enough to recover from the holiday fun and travel, so Thursday night I laced up my sneakers and hit the pavement for the first time in almost two weeks.  It was a short run—just a quick 20 minutes out and back, with a long walking cooldown afterward—but I think it was a good way to get back into the running part of my life.  The Armadillo Dash is fast approaching (just two months more for training!), and I’m hoping to get 6-8 long runs done between now and then.  Which means it’s time to run!

20 minutes of running wasn’t too difficult to do after a two-week break and a few days of biking, but I was definitely feeling the effects in my legs the next day.  My goal is to ease myself back into running so that I don’t over-do it, but I am really hoping to do a 70-minute long run on Monday.  A little tightness after a work-out is fine, but there is a thin line between being sore or tight and the beginning of an injury.  I need to stay on the healthy side of that line.
